Northern Ireland really has it all - beautiful landscapes, history, buzzing culture, and unforgettable experiences around every corner. If you’re planning a trip, here are some of my top recommendations, starting with the largest county, Tyrone.

Tyrone | Adventure, Stargazing & Giant Sculptures
If you love adventure, nature, or a good story told through the landscape, Tyrone is a must-visit. The Sperrin Mountains are one of the most beautiful and untouched parts of Ireland - perfect for hiking, cycling, and even stargazing, thanks to some of the darkest skies in Europe.

Speaking of stars, you won’t want to miss the OM Dark Sky Park & Observatory. Whether you're fascinated by astronomy or just love the idea of seeing the night sky in all its glory, this place is an unforgettable experience. With state-of-the-art telescopes, a digital planetarium, and interactive exhibits, it’s perfect for both adults and kids. And if you really want to make the most of it, stay overnight in a luxury glamping pod with a stargazing window - you’ll literally fall asleep under a sky full of stars which sounds like bliss to me.!

Another unique experience in Tyrone is the Giants of the Sperrins, a stunning outdoor sculpture trail featuring three massive wooden giants, created by world-renowned artist Thomas Dambo. Each one has its own story - Darach, the Guardian watches over the present, Nowanois, the Storyteller keeps folklore alive, and Ceoldán, the Stargazer looks to the skies, symbolizing our connection to the universe. Whether you’re into art, nature, or just want an epic photo opportunity, these sculptures are worth the visit!
Belfast | History, Culture & Incredible Food
Belfast is one of the most exciting cities to visit right now - it even made National Geographic Traveller’s ‘Cool List 2024’. And once you’re here, it’s easy to see why.
For history lovers, Crumlin Road Gaol offers fascinating tours inside a former prison, while McConnell’s Distillery is a must for whiskey fans. To really understand the city’s past, take a Black Taxi Tour, where local guides bring Belfast’s history to life through its murals and Peace Walls.
Foodies, you’re in for a treat. St. George’s Market and Common Market in the Cathedral Quarter serve up everything from traditional Irish dishes to top-tier street food. And with new restaurants, live music, and cultural events popping up all the time, Belfast just keeps getting better. If it’s not on your travel list yet, it should be!
County Down | Stunning Scenery & Outdoor Adventures
Just an hour and a half from Dublin, County Down is packed with natural beauty, history, and adventure. From the shores of Belfast Lough to the peaceful waters of Strangford Lough and the rugged Mourne Mountains, this county is a dream for outdoor lovers. It’s also home to Hillsborough Castle, Northern Ireland’s only royal palace.
If you’re looking for a great base while exploring, Newcastle is the perfect spot. Sitting at the foot of the Mournes and surrounded by beaches, forests, and hiking trails, it’s an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. While you’re there, check out Castlewellan Forest Park, home to the Peace Maze - one of the world’s largest hedge mazes. The challenge is to find your way to the peace bell at the centre which apparently is no easy task!
From magical stargazing in Tyrone to Belfast’s buzzing city life and County Down’s breathtaking landscapes, Northern Ireland is packed with incredible places to explore. For more info, check out the official website here.
